What is Krav Maga?

Defined by efficient movements and universal principles, Krav Maga is the ideal self-defense system for unexpected and dangerous situations. Because real-world attacks are not a contest, Krav Maga has no rules. It is this freedom that makes Krav Maga NOT a martial art, but a practical self-defense system. No katas, no rituals, no rules. Just get home safe.

Krav Maga at its core is designed to be learned quickly and defend common attacks effectively. Our association, Krav Maga Worldwide, constantly monitors the changing threats in the world. Because of this, our training curriculum is constantly evolving to keep up with our rapidly changing world. The Krav Maga principles are intended to cover a wide range of attacks and violent encounters with the goal of providing high-level guidance for unfamiliar situations. Therefore, even if you are met with an attack that was not explicitly covered in our training curriculum, you’ll be able to successfully navigate the encounter.

In conclusion, Krav Maga forgoes the style of teaching that is common to traditional martial arts. Our principal first and no rules mindset makes our program practical, effective, and easy to learn.

KRAV MAGA LEVELS

Level 1

Level one is designed for new Krav Maga students. The goal of this entry-level classes is to teach the basics of fighting and self-defense. Students will learn various fighting stances and movements, including punches and kicks from standing position, as well as from the ground. Trainees will be introduced to effective elbow and knee strikes, and shown how to defend against punches, chokes, headlocks, and wrist grabs. Students training an average of two or three times per week should expect to complete the level one Krav Maga self-defense curriculum in four – six months (minimum 40 hours), and be ready to test for KM Level 2.

Level 2

At level 2, intermediate self-defense course, students will continue to review and hone skills learned in KM level 1. This training will introduce additional punches and kicks, punch defenses with counterattacks, defenses against various chokes and kicks, bearhugs, and headlocks. Precision elements such as timing, distance, and alternative targeting are introduced. Students training an average of two to three times per week can expect to complete the level 2 curriculum in six – nine months (minimum 60 hours) before testing for KM Level 3.

Level 3

Third level Krav Maga self-defense classes sharpen basic techniques and allow students to further expand their foundation of Krav Maga attacks and defenses. Students will continue to refine strikes, defenses against strikes, and more advanced self-defense techniques involving defense against weapons such as guns and sticks. Students training two to three times per week can expect to be eligible to test for the fourth level in ten – twelve (minimum 90 hours) months.

Krav Maga is a self-defense system. It is a modern, reality based method of training utilizing coherent and logical techniques that build up one another and utilizes the body’s natural and instinctive movements. Because the Krav Maga system is well integrated, common defensive principles apply to a variety of attack scenarios. Thus, the system can be learned in a relatively short period of time and can be performed under stress. This often includes being taken by surprise and learning to defend from an initial position of disadvantage and moving to a position of advantage to neutralize the threat. Krav Maga incorporates techniques from many styles including boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and others but it does not adhere to any classic or traditional school of thought. It has no sporting or tournament aspect.

The art of Krav Maga is much more than a self defense system, it is personal protection at its finest. It is a modern, highly refined street fighting system, designed to be effective against armed and unarmed attackers. Krav Maga addresses a wide variety of attacks, as well as, solutions against multiple attackers.

Level 4

These advanced Krav Maga self-defense classes are designed for students to broaden their skill sets. In addition to refining tactics and techniques learned in previous levels, students encounter high-threat weapon defenses, learn to deal with attacks from multiple opponents, and learn more advanced ground fighting techniques. Students training two to three times per week can expect to be eligible to test for the fifth level twelve months (minimum 120 hours).

Level 5

This advanced Krav Maga self-defense course is home to our most skilled fighters. Students will encounter the entire curriculum of fighting, ground fighting, third-party protection, and defense against all kinds of weapons.

Anatomyof a class

1. A brief warmup to build strength and conditioning.
2. Learn and utilize combatives such as punches, kicks, elbows, and knees.
3. Practice defenses against common chokes, headlocks, and strikes.
4. Put everything together in a stress drill designed to test your understanding of the techniques under pressure.

We do not use any forms or katas in class. We get hands-on and work the techniques with a training partner who is there to help you grow and push your limits. Along with our training methodology, we focus on developing a fight mentality to help avoid the “freeze” that is common for those who find themselves in a violent encounter.

Putting this all together in every class is how we effectively develop the muscle memory and mindset needed to survive a real-world attack. Our certified instructors are there to provide guidance, individual feedback, and a safe training environment for our students.
