Krav Maga is a self-defense system. It is a modern, reality based method of training utilizing coherent and logical techniques that build up one another and utilizes the body’s natural and instinctive movements. Because the Krav Maga system is well integrated, common defensive principles apply to a variety of attack scenarios. Thus, the system can be learned in a relatively short period of time and can be performed under stress. This often includes being taken by surprise and learning to defend from an initial position of disadvantage and moving to a position of advantage to neutralize the threat. Krav Maga incorporates techniques from many styles including boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and others but it does not adhere to any classic or traditional school of thought. It has no sporting or tournament aspect.

The art of Krav Maga is much more than a self defense system, it is personal protection at its finest. It is a modern, highly refined street fighting system, designed to be effective against armed and unarmed attackers. Krav Maga addresses a wide variety of attacks, as well as, solutions against multiple attackers.

Level 4

These advanced Krav Maga self-defense classes are designed for students to broaden their skill sets. In addition to refining tactics and techniques learned in previous levels, students encounter high-threat weapon defenses, learn to deal with attacks from multiple opponents, and learn more advanced ground fighting techniques. Students training two to three times per week can expect to be eligible to test for the fifth level twelve months (minimum 120 hours).

Level 5

This advanced Krav Maga self-defense course is home to our most skilled fighters. Students will encounter the entire curriculum of fighting, ground fighting, third-party protection, and defense against all kinds of weapons.

Anatomy of a class

Here's what to expect

1. A brief warmup to build strength and conditioning.
2. Learn and utilize combatives such as punches, kicks, elbows, and knees.
3. Practice defenses against common chokes, headlocks, and strikes.
4. Put everything together in a stress drill designed to test your understanding of the techniques under pressure.

We do not use any forms or katas in class. We get hands-on and work the techniques with a training partner who is there to help you grow and push your limits. Along with our training methodology, we focus on developing a fight mentality to help avoid the “freeze” that is common for those who find themselves in a violent encounter.

Putting this all together in every class is how we effectively develop the muscle memory and mindset needed to survive a real-world attack. Our certified instructors are there to provide guidance, individual feedback, and a safe training environment for our students.

Erik Hicks

Owner & Chief Instructor

Erik is the Chief Instructor of Krav Maga Dallas and is certified by the Krav Maga Association of America as a Second Degree Black Belt Instructor. As well, Erik is a certified Force Training Instructor and enjoys teaching our military and law enforcement personnel. He is also the lead instructor of Krav Maga Dallas’s Youth Program and is a certified personal trainer.

Erik took his first Krav Maga class in 2000 and has been hooked ever since. Quickly gravitating toward Krav Maga’s natural movements and it’s physical and efficient style, Erik was bitten by the teaching bug almost immediately and traveled to Los Angeles to receive his first certification in 2002. In 2004, he purchased the school and Krav Maga Plano was born. Over the next several years, Erik continued his training and received his Expert I/Blue Belt Instructor Certification. In 2007, life took a small detour and Erik entered the world of restauranteur, owning and operating a chain of local sandwich shops. While he enjoyed the experience and excitement of the food industry, it limited his time to train and took him away from his true passion which is teaching Krav Maga. After working more than 15 years in marketing and a 5 year stint as a “sandwich mogul”, Erik took the leap of faith to focus all of his time, attention, and resources to help his community and students live safer, healthier, and better lives as the full-time, chief instructor at Krav Maga Dallas.

Outside of teaching and training, Erik enjoys hiking, camping and spending time with family, friends, and the countless students he has had the privilege of coaching for over 2 decades.
