MEET THE TEAM

Meet just a few of our expert Youth Krav Maga instructors!

Eric Keener

Youth Program Director

Eric began his self-defense journey in Krav Maga Dallas’ Youth Program. Clutzy and uncoordinated, the nine-year-old struggled through the training—but he loved every class. Months later, he felt safer, stronger, and more confident. As an adult student, Eric decided to become an instructor to transform others as his instructors had transformed him.

Outside of Krav Maga, Eric is studying at Collin College and enjoys challenging himself in physical fitness, playing the piano, and spending time with friends and family.

Brooke Nelson

Brooke started in the Youth Program in 2013 and has made amazing changes in her life from when she first walked through our doors. A naturally quiet person with a very “keep to herself attitude”, you would not expect her to have the ferocity and confidence she now has today. After advancing to the Adult Program, she began assisting in youth classes and quickly became eager to teach her own classes. Easily being one of the most understanding and sweet people you will ever meet, she can fill a room with her voice and get the shyest person in the room to open up and make new friends.

When she’s not on the mats, she’s studying and hanging out with friends from Krav Maga Dallas.

Ian Mrochek

Ian began his self-defense journey in the Krav Maga Dallas Youth Program in 2017. Since then, his focus has been on getting fit, gaining self-confidence, and improving his ability to defend himself. Today, as a higher-level student in the adult program, Ian is happy to share all he has learned with the younger students of KMD. He has an electric and infectious personality that rushes through his students every time he’s up in front of the class.

Outside of Krav Maga, Ian enjoys theatre, finding his place on the stage and in the spotlight.

  • Calvin got started in our Youth Program through one of our annual Krav Maga Summer Camps along with his sister Mei. They had heard about it through their father, who also trained Krav Maga. Coming from traditional Karate, they were looking for something more practical and fun.

“I had to work hard to earn my first belt, it wasn’t easy and it made me feel like I really earned it!” – Calvan R.

  • Mei got started the same way as her brother above. She took to Krav Maga very quickly and enjoys every second of it. The departure from traditional martial arts means that she now has a fun and effective way to stay safe in her everyday life.

“I like how Krav teaches you to defend yourself and not just to fight.” – Mei R

  • Lillian joined Krav Maga Dallas along with her whole family. She and her brother are now both advanced students in the Youth Program with their parents trying to catch up to them in the Adult Program. Krav Maga gives her a much-needed outlet for her huge well of energy.

“It makes exercise fun and you get to jump right into learning without having to do any poses (katas)… Training Krav Maga gives me a feeling of safety and confidence in new areas” – Lillian M.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Krav Maga?

The literal translation from Hebrew to English is “contact combat” or “close combat”. Krav Maga is the official self-defense and fighting system of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), as well as, the system of choice for thousands of law enforcement, military and government agencies around the world. It has been internationally recognized as the most efficient self-defense system. Krav Maga emphasizes instinctive movements, practical techniques and stress drill training scenarios to teach combatives against real attacks.

This unique and original method incorporates fitness, self-defense, and fighting like no other system. Students can become proficient in months rather than years. Krav Maga provides a total body workout that combines punching, kicking, street fighting, ground survival, and defense against weapons. There is nothing flashy about the system: No Forms. No Katas. It is simply, effective techniques that work in the real world.

Is there a lunch break?

We take a lunch break at 12pm. Kids can bring a packed lunch and have a chance to catch their breath and chat before continuing their training!

Does my child need any previous martial arts experince?

Not at all! We build all of our students up from the ground up, ensuring that they have a strong foundation to build on top of.

How is Krav Maga different from traditional marital arts?

Traditional martial arts may offer a host of benefits but are not optimal for fighting or self-defense. Fighting, like mixed martial arts is a useful skill but is often better utilized in a rules based environment.

Krav Maga is a self-defense system. It is a modern, reality based method of training utilizing coherent and logical techniques that build up one another and uses the body’s natural and instinctive movements. Because the Krav Maga system is well integrated, common defensive principles apply to a variety of attack scenarios. Thus, the system can be learned in a relatively short period of time and performed under stress. This often includes being taken by surprise, learning to defend from an initial position of disadvantage. and moving to a position of advantage to neutralize the threat. Krav Maga incorporates techniques from many styles including boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and others, but it does not adhere to any classic or traditional school of thought. It has no sporting or tournament aspect.

The art of Krav Maga is much more than a self defense system, it is personal protection at its finest. It is a modern, highly refined street fighting system, designed to be effective against armed and unarmed attackers. Krav Maga addresses a wide variety of attacks, as well as, solutions against multiple attackers.

Is Krav Maga dangerous? I don't want my child to get hurt!

While this is a very real concern, our expert instructors always have student safety at the top of their minds! In our 6 years of running the Summer Camp, we have NEVER had a major injury during training.
